Well it looks like Microsoft have done it again. The new Xbox Live update that went available today has obviously introduced some new features, our personal favorite being cool new avatars! You can buy them, but best of all you can unlock them by playing games! What an incentive, thumbs up from us.
Check out the cool looking dude on the right! That’s my personal avatar, boasting the Gears of War 2 armour. Kinda cool huh?
So how do we unlock Xbox 360 Avatars? We’re asking the same question. Here’s what Microsoft have to say about it from xbox.com:
“A new shopping experience has arrived on Xbox LIVE with the Avatar Marketplace. Show your style with premium items including branded apparel from your favorite fashion labels and Xbox 360 games.
In addition to the opening of Avatar Marketplace, we’re going a step further. Look for opportunities in a variety of Xbox 360 games where you can earn unique Avatar clothing and gear. Like Achievements, the Avatar in-game awards will be tied to various in-game accomplishments.”
Hmmm…. have you spotted any games that have the avatar unlocks yet? We sure as hell haven’t, but will post more info when we see it.
In the meantime, there is a ton of stuff you can buy on the avatar marketplace. Not just game specifc stuff either, you can even have Starwars Clone Trooper armour and a light sabre! Or even none game/movie specific gear like branded clothing. Sure, Microsoft are probably going to make a lot of money from this, but personally I don’t mind handing over a bit of money for such a nifty little feature

I hope they have a batman avatar. Looking forward to that game! Imagine having a batman costume for your avatar haha
Woohaa, I heard it was that splosion man as well, but I’m hoping others have it. Is it just for new games? What about old games? I can’t see them having free unlocks for games like Gears of War or Halo now, because they are charging for the gear (no pun intended)
